A free, family friendly festival is coming up this weekend on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Ridgeland.

Trailfest on the Trace is a joint effort between the Natchez Trace Parkway, the National Park Foundation and Bike Walk Mississippi.

The Mississippi Community Education Center is hosting its 4th Annual Golf Tournament Friday, Sept. 28.

The tournament will be at the Lake Caroline Golf Course in Madison.

Madison Central aims for another playoff run in 2012

MADISON, MS (WLBT) - Madison Central head coach Bobby Hall will once again have his guys thinking playoffs in 2012.

The Jaguars finished last season with an 11-3 record.

They were able to finally get past South Panola in the playoffs before losing to eventual champ Olive Branch in the 6A North title game.

Coach Hall must replace Drew Rowell at quarterback, but the backfield should be strong with Brandon Moore and Daniel Goodspeed leading the way.

Annual Katfishin' Kids event Saturday

Bring the kids and join in for a fun-filled day where children can learn the basics of fishing.

Katfishin’ Kids is set for Saturday at Turcotte Lab off Highway 43 at the Ross Barnett Reservoir from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.  This is a free event to teach youth about fishing and no equipment is needed.

Heatwave Classic Triathlon June 2

The 27th annual Heatwave Classic Triathlon is June 2.

The race will consist of a half-mile swim in the Ross Barnett Reservoir, a 24.5- mile bike ride along the historic Natchez Trace Parkway and end with a 10K run along Ridgeland's Multi-Purpose Trail. 

The Heatwave Classic Triathlon is sponsored by the City of Ridgeland Recreation & Parks Department and BlueCross BlueShield of Mississippi.

Participants may register online at www.heatwavetri.racesonline.com.

Natchez Trace Century Ride May 12

The Natchez Trace Century Ride is set for Saturday, May 12, starting at 7:30 a.m.

The ride will start at the Ridgeland Recreational Center and travel distances from 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles on the historic Natchez Trace Parkway.

The ride is for all ages and ability levels.
