Canton mayoral debate Monday

The Canton Chamber of Commerce Main Street Association will host a mayoral forum Monday at the Canton Multipurpose Center.

The six mayoral candidates will participate in the forum, which starts at 6:30 p.m. A meet and greet will be held from 6-6:30 p.m.

WLBT and Fox 40 reporter David Kenney will moderate the 90-minute debate.

The candidates are: Arnel Bolden (D), Fred Esco Jr. (D), Greg Green (D), Chip Matthews (R), Lorraine Levy (R), William Truly (D, Incumbent).

This event is free and open to the public.

Ridgeland mayor appointed to national safety, crime prevention committee

Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee has been appointed to the National League of Cities 2013 Public Safety & Crime Prevention Steering Committee.

This Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving crime prevention, corrections, substance abuse, municipal fire policy, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness and relief, homeland security, domestic terrorism, court systems and gun control.

Madison Co. Board of Supervisors elects VP, Pres.
The Madison County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce that Supervisor Gerald Steen of District 3 has been elected president and Supervisor Karl Banks of District 4 has been elected vice president.

Steen and Banks were elected by their peers at the January 7th board meeting.

U.S. Rep Gregg Harper (R-Miss) will host his fourth annual Military Academy Day on Saturday, March 24, at Madison Central High School.

The free event is designed for students and parents to learn more about America's military academies, requirements for admission and the congressional appointment process.

High school students who are preparing for college and considering the military academies should attend.

Runoff for Alderman-at-Large seat in Ridgeland

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT)- A runoff for the City of Ridgeland Alderman-at-Large seat is today.

The polls will be open until 7 p.m. for Ridgeland residents to cast their vote for one of the two candidates who received the most votes in the special election two weeks ago -- D.I. Smith and Wint McGee.
