Burnt toast prompts evacuation
News

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT)- Burnt toast created a scare at the Waterford at Highland Colony Retirement Home in Ridgeland Saturday morning.

Smoke detectors went off, and Ridgeland firefighters responded just after 8am.

Waterford Executive Director Kevin Hanlon says staff members evacuated the building as a precaution due to the smoke. Non-ambulatory patients were assisted by employees.

The home has 107 residents, but not all of them were there at the time of the incident.

Hanlon says the evacuation turned out to be a good test of their emergency procedures.

Firefighters tended to the problem and everyone was allowed back in shortly afterward.

There were no injuries, Hanlon says.
