Donations pour in for neglected dog | Events
JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Madison Ark Animal Rescue has received an outpouring of donations and support after posting a picture on Facebook of a severely neglected dog the organization rescued in Jackson this week.
Tuesday, a Madison Ark volunteer found Mac on Downing Street in Jackson’s Fondren neighborhood. He was lying in the road near death.
“He was a few breaths away from dying,” said Director Hart Koller.
Nine-month-old Mac was rushed to an emergency vet for treatment. His vet bill quickly reached $800.
Madison Ark created an online donation page for Mac and posted a picture on Facebook that was taken right after he was rescued. Less than two days later, the fund has received more than $4,500 in donations from all over the world.
The animal rescue organization's director and volunteers say Mac isn't the only animal in need of help, and they unfortunately see this type of abuse and neglect all the time. They hope Mac's story helps others.
“He's the face of countless thousands of animals who need help,” said volunteer Miranda Jordon.
Madison Ark says the extra donations not needed for Mac's care will be used for the many abused and neglected animals they rescue. In the last two weeks, Madison Ark has taken four other animals to the emergency vet.
Mac is now in a foster home and is expected to make a full recovery. To keep up with his progress or to donate, visit the Mac fund page.
Madison Ark, which is a network of foster homes, has several other fundraising and adoption events coming up.
One is an event the organization hopes will become its major annual fundraiser and help Madison Ark reach its goal of building its own shelter. The Mississippi Craft Show is set for the weekend of Aug. 25 and 26, at the Trademart on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.
The two-day event will feature Mississippi artists. There will be entertainment, food and activities for all ages. For more information, visit the event’s website.
Also, this Saturday Madison Ark will have pets available for adoption at the PetSmart in Flowood.
Madison Ark is also looking for volunteers to serve in all different capacities. Visit the organization’s website for more information.
