Sobriety checkpoints on Natchez Trace Parkway Friday | Crime

MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Parkway Rangers will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on the Natchez Trace Parkway Friday -- in an effort to reduce impaired driving.
Friday night between 9 and 2 a.m., there will be a checkpoint between milepost 75 and 116 in Hinds or Madison counties, according to news release from the National Park Service.
"Checkpoints tend to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road and do not necessarily produce dramatic increases in arrests. The major value of checkpoints is their educational and deterrent influence on the motoring public," the news release stated.
In 2010, 14 million people traveled on the Natchez Trace Parkway and there were 220 motor vehicle accidents and seven fatalities.
