Big bra raises support | Business

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - When you drive by Repeat Street on Ridgewood Road in Ridgeland, you can't miss what is probably the biggest bra in the Jackson Metro attached to the front of the business.
This giant bra is not only an attention getter -- it’s a symbol for the store's big commitment to raising awareness and funds to fight breast cancer each year.
Repeat Street is once again participating in Riverwalk Casino Hotel's Annual Bras for Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Last year, Repeat Street donated more than 4,000 bras -- almost half of the total number donated.
This year, Repeat Street has set a goal to collect 5,000 bras for the 4th annual fundraiser.
“Our staff and customers look forward to October all year long,” said owner Michele Austin, in a news release. “Not only do we get to have fun with all of the bras coming in, but we get to meet so many amazing women with such incredible life stories – plus the bras are all donated to local shelters afterward, and it’s a great feeling to know how many lives are touched. It’s really a great thing that Riverwalk does for the fight against this disease.”
Nearly 10,000 bras from 20 different states were donated last year to Riverwalk. This year’s goal is to receive 15,000 bras and at least one bra from each state, according to a news release from Riverwalk.
Riverwalk Casino will donate $1 for each bra collected to the American Cancer Society.
The store and other locations in the Metro are asking the community to look through their drawers and donate any bras -- new, old, stretched out, worn out, they don’t care. Coconut bras even count and several have been donated.
For the entire month of October, bras will be collected at Repeat Street, Riverwalk Casino, Curves for Women in Jackson and Shape Up Sisters in Vicksburg.
On Nov. 3, the bras will be strung together and displayed across the old Highway 80 Mississippi River Bridge.
