About Us

Upside Down Family Therapy

What makes a child a child? Children are enthusiastic, creative, playful, and energetic. They possess a unique style of learning and communicating. They relate to the world much differently than adults because their brains are still developing. When adults and children have difficulty reconciling their different experiences of the world, life can seem backwards, inside out, and UPSIDE DOWN.

Upside Down Therapy was founded out of a desire to embrace the unique perspectives that children and adolescents have, and to bring connection and understanding to families as a whole. Our practice is staffed with licensed therapists and interns who are skilled at integrating Biblical truth and psychological concepts. We desire to serve and unite families by using the language of their children, play, in order to help them build skills, develop insight and awareness, solve problems, and change behavior in constructive ways.

Additional Information

What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a research-based discipline that has been used for decades. Play therapy sessions take place in a play room that is equipped with a special selection of toys. Most play therapy sessions are one-on-one, though small sibling groups or families may sometimes be seen together. At Upside Down Therapy, play therapy sessions are sometimes child-led, meaning the child has the freedom to choose how to use the time in the playroom, and sometimes guided by the therapist.

Play therapy capitalizes on the power of play to help children learn to develop self-control and problem-solving skills, accept responsibility, and manage the unmanageable in their worlds.
